This compelling a cappella setting of Henry Van Dyke’s poem has a continual sense of motion, created by the 7/8 metre and scat singing style that is passed around the parts. This is a powerful and uplifting anthem for general worship.
Young singers will enjoy the ‘scat’ style accompaniment passed between divided first altos, beneath the 7/8 melody and above the bell-like second altos. It builds up to an exciting climax at the end, as second sopranos and first altos divide to form a six-part texture.
